How it all began
It all happened over a 'braai', yes, a braai!
It was late December, I was visiting friends when I brought up this crazy idea of starting my own business. I was frustrated in my career and I have always had this dream of being an entrepreneur and being my boss. I asked myself, what would happen if I threw caution to the wind and turned my dreams into reality? Sure enough, I found out.
On the 16th of February 2020, I decided to start my own frozen berry business. Why? You ask, I recognized a need for fresh and frozen fruit of high quality, also, I LOVE BERRIES! But little did I know that just 5 weeks later we would be going into a full lockdown. I found myself faced with two options, carry on teaching with the added complications that Covid-19 and being in a lockdown would bring, or make a clean break and start this new exciting adventure.
We were extremely fortunate that The Berry Lady was able to keep trading as an essential service throughout the lockdown period. Establishing a business during a worldwide pandemic was a risk I never thought I would take in my life, but I am berry happy that I did! Haha.
So far this venture has been nuts! (Excuse the pun). I wanted to sell berries because it was important to me to be able to provide good quality and healthy products that were both affordable and accessible to EVERYONE and not just one demographic.
Fast forward a year later I can proudly say I run a successful business with attention to detail and exceptional customer service as my biggest priority.
